The Promenade des Anglais
The famous 7 km Nice Promenade runs along the city and the seaside, going from the Colline du Château to the airport. It offers many relaxation areas and a sublime panorama of the Baie des Anges. The "Prom'" is known throughout the world and was the result of a British project in the 19th century and is bordered by many luxury hotels. The Promenade des Anglais is an emblematic meeting place for jogging enthusiasts from Nice.
Old Nice
The old town of Nice with its shady alleys, its colorful facades and its typically Mediterranean louvered shutters. Many small shops and restaurants will make you happy for a chic and local shopping. In Old Nice, you will find the Place du Palais de Justice, Place Saint-François and Place Rossetti, one of the liveliest places in the city and on which the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral is located. The main pedestrian street of old Nice, the Cours Saleya is lined with magnificent colorful buildings in the Baroque style and attracts the famous flower market every morning (except Mondays). It is also a highly sought after area for accommodation in Nice.
Castle Hill
The Castle Hill was aptly named at the time, but alas, the castle that stood there was destroyed in 1706 by order of King Louis XIV. Today, the castle is the park located on the hill overlooking Old Nice. This park is worth it for the different viewpoints it offers over the city, the Baie des Anges, the port and the mountains. You can also discover the waterfall built on the ruins of an old dungeon. The ascent to the castle can be done on foot, by lift or via the little tourist train.
The Cimiez district
The Cimiez district is a residential area but also a place steeped in history. You can discover the remains of a Roman amphitheater, the park of the arenas, but also the arenas of Cimiez, the garden of the monastery of Cimiez from which you will enjoy a panoramic view of Nice. Museums are also present such as the archaeological museum of Cimiez and its Roman ruins, the Henri Matisse museum and the Marc Chagall national museum.
Place Massena
Place Masséna is the central square of the city and is the meeting point between the Old Nice district, the Promenade des Anglais and the start of rue Masséna. It is known for its white and black floor tiles. Built in 1840, it has continued to evolve and its current appearance dates from 2007. Place Masséna is surrounded by Nice buildings with red facades and to the south is the fountain of the sun with the statue of Apollo.
Saint Nicholas Cathedral
Also called the Russian Church of Nice, the Saint-Nicolas Orthodox Cathedral of Nice, classified as a historical monument, is the most important religious building of the Orthodox faith outside of Russia. It was built between 1903 and 1912 by order of Tsar Alexander II of Russia in a neo-Russian style. The interior has a very rich decoration adorned with multiple icons, frescoes and carved woodwork. The visit to Saint-Nicolas Cathedral is free and the church is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. except for the office, which takes place on Saturday evening, Sunday morning and the mornings of ecclesiastical holidays.
The coastal path
The coastal path is a very pleasant activity to fill up with nature and admire the sublime landscapes of the Côte d'Azur. This path is in 2 parts and allows you to connect Nice to Villefranche-sur-Mer on foot while skirting the sea for 90% of the time. The path decorated with olive trees, Scots pines and rocky points promises you a beautiful sporty walk.
The Matisse Museum
Located on the heights of the city, inside the Arènes de Cimiez garden, the Matisse museum is one of the best known in Nice and is dedicated to the painter Henri Matisse. It contains one of the largest collections of the painter in a sublime natural setting. This cultural site is also labeled "Musée de France".
The Tête Carrée
The Tête Carrée is a monumental sculpture 30 meters high and is the work of the artist Sacha Sosno. It was inaugurated in 2002 and is next to the Barla crossing, very close to the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC). This "Tête Carrée" is an inhabited sculpture which houses the administration of the libraries of Nice. This gigantic work has become an architectural symbol of the city of Nice.
Mount Boron
Mont Boron and its eponymous 57-hectare park offer a remarkable view of the city of Nice. Indeed, Mont Boron culminates at more than 190 meters in height and dominates the entire Baie des Anges, the Massif de l'Estérel but also the bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer. The park also has 11 km of trails where you can discover Aleppo pines and other rare trees.
