Mont-Boron / Cap de Nice
An upscale district in Nice, Mont Boron is a highly residential area with stunning Belle Époque properties offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean.
The Origins of the Mont Boron District
Rising over 190 meters in the southeast of Nice, Mont Boron has lent its name to the district that spreads across its slopes and base. The hill is covered by a 57-hectare forested area, crisscrossed by over 10 kilometers of trails that were developed in the latter half of the 19th century. The site also houses a military battery built in 1887. The Mont Boron district extends to Mont Alban, located to the north of Mont Boron. Mont Alban was fortified earlier and is home to one of the rare remaining examples of 16th-century military architecture. The siege of Nice during the Ninth Italian War prompted the Duke of Savoy to reinforce the maritime border of his territories by constructing fortifications between the Château de Nice and the Citadel of Saint-Elme in Villefranche. The fort was completed in 1560. Strategic access points to Nice for centuries, up until World War II, Mont Boron and Mont Alban are now treasured natural spaces. At the base of these hills, prestigious villas have been built, several of which belong to prominent figures in the music and film industries. The Highlights of the Mont Boron District
The Mont Boron district stretches east of the port, on the Cap de Nice, up to the border with Villefranche-sur-Mer. It includes, along the coast, the Félix Raynaux Garden, the Plateforme Beach, the Pointe du Gaton, the Pointe de la Rascasse, and the Pointe Madame, which face Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. The district encompasses Mont Boron Park and part of the Vinaigrier Park further north. It is bordered to the west by the Port, Riquier, and Saint-Roch districts. Several old military structures are preserved within its boundaries, including the small 19th-century battery at the end of Cap de Nice, the Mont Boron battery at the top of the hill, and the 16th-century Mont Alban fort. Notable buildings in the district include Villa Beau Site, a 19th-century villa in the neoclassical style with troglodyte outbuildings, and the Château de l'Anglais, a typical example of the "folies" (extravagant villas) built on the Riviera in the mid-19th century. Beneath the Mont Boron massif is the Lazaret Cave, a major archaeological site located 30 meters above the sea.
Living in the Mont Boron District
The 57-hectare wooded park of Mont Boron is a natural gem enjoyed daily by the district's residents. With forest roads and hiking trails, the massif is an ideal place for walks. It provides a refreshing and peaceful living environment, just steps away from the bustling port. The views of the Baie des Anges or the Baie de Villefranche are stunning. Avenue Jean-Lorrain and Boulevard Carnot offer prime views of the magnificent sunset every evening. The area's real estate is distinguished by its prestige, comprising luxury villas and high-end residences. Many properties feature the Belle Époque style, a testament to the Riviera's golden age, especially on Avenue des Hespérides and Boulevard du Mont Boron. The eastern part of the district is home to contemporary villas and small, high-quality residences, some with direct access to the sea. The district is highly sought after for its close proximity to the center of Nice, particularly the port and Riquier's shops. Boulevards de la Corne d’Or and Princesse Grâce de Monaco provide quick access to the principality. Unsurprisingly, this neighborhood's exceptional quality of life comes with some of the highest property prices in the city.
