The Origins of the Saint-Pierre-de-Féric Neighborhood
Located on the hills between Fabron and Nice Nord, the Saint-Pierre-de-Féric neighborhood extends from the Honoré d’Estienne d’Orves park to beyond the A8 highway, which runs beneath the Corniche des Oliviers. It derives its name from the main hill on which it developed. It is part of the four "Saint" hills, including Saint-Pancrace to the north, Saint-Sylvestre, and Saint-Barthélemy. Once rural, the area was still agricultural when a network of roads was created in 1922 to facilitate access to the farms. The Corniche des Oliviers, linking Saint-Pierre-de-Féric to Saint-Pancrace, was inaugurated in 1931. Like many of Nice’s hilltop farms, the crops on Saint-Pierre-de-Féric were gradually replaced by horticultural enterprises dedicated to carnations. The massive urbanization of the metropolis in the 1960s and 70s transformed the neighborhood into a primarily residential area. However, its topography and history have preserved it from overly dense development: Saint-Pierre-de-Féric primarily features individual houses and villas in a still very green environment. It offers several unique viewpoints of the Baie des Anges, such as those from the Corniches de la Conque, and up to the Mercantour massif from the highest points of the neighborhood, like the Corniche des Oliviers or the Chemin de la Costière. On the Var side, the Corniche de Magnan overlooks the Boulevard de la Madeleine. Everywhere, terraced buildings offer unobstructed views, either to the west or the east. The lower part of the neighborhood is located 400 meters from the Baumettes and 500 meters from the Promenade des Anglais. Below the Conque are the Lycée du Parc Impérial and the prestigious Nice Lawn Tennis Club. On the other side, to the north of the neighborhood, there is an equestrian center.
